Lesson 7 · Common Mistakes

Catch the rule before it catches your hand.

Many beginner mistakes come from carrying rules over from another Mahjong style. These are the six to correct first.

01

Keeping winds or dragons in the hand

The app treats them as Flores, so they are exposed and replaced.

02

Counting four groups and a pair

That is a common 13-tile structure. This 16-tile game needs five groups and one pair.

03

Calling Chow from anyone

Chow is limited to the previous player’s discard. Pong, Kang, and win may come from anyone when legal.

04

Stopping Seven Pairs at fourteen tiles

The app’s shape is seven pairs plus one Chow or Pong group.

05

Treating Sagasa as a discard claim

Sagasa happens when you draw the fourth copy for your own exposed Pong.

06

Adding flower points at the end

Flowers and seasons do not add points to the official app score.
